Fort Mitchell was named, you guessed it, for a fort built for the defense of Cincinnati, about seven miles away, and Northern Kentucky, during the Civil War. It was named after General Ormsby Mitchell, who designed the fort.
While in Fort Mitchell my already shaky marriage with John escalated to the point where it seemed that staying together was an alternative laden with a high level of amguish. So it was with both relief and some trepidation that I packed up as many belongings as possible and headed for Erie Pennsylvania with my kids.
